Tenkte jeg skulle tipse om et nytt open access tidsskrift, Journal of eScience Librarianship. Tidsskriftet fokuserer på bibliotekets rolle i forhold til data-drevet forskning. Støtte til «eScience» kan komme til å bli en ny tjeneste UB må levere i fremtiden, i form av undervisning i bruk og formidling av data og levering av datatjenester. Vi har allerede begynt å se på dette i forhold til humaniora i prosjektet Digitale fulltekstarkiv.

Om tidsskriftet:

The Journal of eScience Librarianship (JESLIB) is an open access, peer-reviewed journal that advances the theory and practice of librarianship with a special focus on services related to data-driven research in the physical, biological, and medical sciences. The journal explores the many roles of librarians in supporting eScience and welcomes articles related to education, outreach, collaborations, and current practices, by contributors from all areas of the globe. Articles covering both the theoretical and practical applications are welcomed. JESLIB also provides special features in each issue which include book reviews on subjects of interest to librarians supporting eScience and information on new technologies.

This project has been partially funded by the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services, under Contract No. N01-LM-6-3508 with the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

RWA (Research Work Act) er eit amerikansk lovforslag som vil innebere innskrenka høve for institusjonane som finansierer forsking (eksempelvis NIH) til å krevje at forskinga skal gjerast fritt tilgjengeleg (Open Acess). Bak forslaget har AAP (Association of American Publishers) stilt seg, sjølv om medlemmer som Nature Group og MIT Press er imot lovforslaget (iflg Wikipedia).

På den andre sida står Open Science og Open Access-rørsla, saman med forskarorganisasjonar (e.g International Society for Computational Biology) og einskildforskarar. Det er vanskeleg å få oversikt over landskapet, men her er noko av det som skrivast om saka:
